Madeleine Mytkowski is a writer & director based in Sydney, Australia.

She graduated from Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film and Television Direction). Her first film Leak premiered at the Reel Good Film Festival 2017. Her second film Penny, You Did Just Fine premiered at the Melbourne Women in Film Festival 2018. Her third film The Water Inside Us All premiered at the Byron Bay International Film Festival 2020 and was nominated for Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year, awarded Best Editing in the National Category at Canberra Short Film Festival 2021 and Best Short Film at Sydney Women's International Film Festival 2022, as well as screening at a variety of other festivals around Australia.

Her fourth film Betty and Bushy premiered at Flickerfest International Short Film Festival 2022, was nominated for Best Documentary at St Kilda Film Festival 2022 and is set to continue its festival run nationally and internationally. Madeleine is currently in post-production on her most recent short film Salt Dreams.

Madeleine was the sole recipient of the Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarship within the VCA Film and Television Faculty, awarded for overall excellence in her field and for her promise as a young filmmaker. She was also awarded The New Colombo Plan Scholarship, where she travelled to The Cook Islands to create stories that explored the connection between music, film and culture.

Madeleine aims to bring stories alive in all of their awkward and flawed forms, giving space for nuanced and intelligent representations on screen. She is focused on establishing an inclusive and ethical space for all creatives to work within.
