About
Hello! I’m Maddie, an Australian writer and director.
With over six years of experience across film, television, and TVC, I’m driven by a passion for uncovering authentic stories and crafting compelling, people-centred narratives.
I graduated from the University of Melbourne, Victorian College of the Arts, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film and Television Direction), where I was awarded the Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarship and the New Colombo Plan Mobility Scholarship.
I recently worked as a researcher at Wildbear Entertainment, Australia’s largest documentary production company, contributing to a slate of non-fiction television series for ZDF, ARTE and Love Nature. Last year, I spent several months developing a documentary series on crocodile farming in the Northern Territory. I am currently collaborating with Barcelona-based artist Bram Ellens on a short documentary, while also freelancing across documentary and podcast projects as a researcher (story development, visual and archive sourcing, contributor outreach, and fact-checking). Alongside this, I continue to develop projects as a writer/director across Australia and Europe, and am (slowly) learning Spanish.
My latest short documentary, Salt Dreams, premiered in Australia at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, screened at the Adelaide Film Festival, Antenna Documentary Film Festival, was nominated for an Australian Directors Guild Award for Best Direction in a Documentary Short Subject, as well as an Innovation Award at Flickerfest.
My previous short documentary, Betty and Bushy, premiered at Flickerfest and was nominated for Best Documentary at St Kilda Film Festival. It was selected for Our Stories at Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival, nominated for Best Australian Short Documentary at the Brisbane International Film Festival, and received a nomination for an Australian Directors Guild Award for Best Direction in a Documentary Short Subject.
My narrative short film, The Water Inside Us All, premiered at the Byron Bay International Film Festival, where it was nominated for Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year. It was awarded Best Editing (National Category) at the Canberra Short Film Festival and Best Short Film at the Sydney Women’s International Film Festival.
Thank you for visiting, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
